I have started READING again.

I have a buncha books I wanna get to:
His Dark Materials trilogy
I Shall Wear Midnight, which I have had for ages but put off due to time and I hadn't yet read Wintersmith
a book of Edgar Allan Poe short stories I got at the used book stall at uni on Thursdays
an Asimov book I got at the same place
Dirk Gently, same place again
Thursday Next
plus Charlotte says I have to read Jane Eyre and Twilight.

Any other recs?

Just about finished To Kill A Mockingbird and Atticus Finch FUCKING RULES.

In other news, I was annoyingly woken up this morning in the middle of a dream where I had just pulled up to the Burger King drivethru (yes, my dreams really are this exciting). They were selling McDonalds softserve for some promotion or something. I remember there was a thing I wanted to get, but I couldn't remember what it was, and I realised after I woke up that it was the Double Down and I wouldn't have been able to get it anyway.

I think my brain was making fun of me.

also also HAPPY BIRTHDAY VIC!!!!!

a long list... :P

You should read the Percy Jackson books, by Rick Riordan. Yes. I have all 5, as well as the 1 currently published in the direct spin-off series (called the Heroes of Olympus series, based on Greek and Roman mythology - the second book is due out in October), and the 2 currently published in the not-so-directly related series (called the Kane Chronicles, based on Egyptian mythology).
Also, you should read Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West. I cannot remember who that is by at this point in time, but wikipedia can tell you.
AAAAAAND I just found a series (The Wardstone Chronicles), by one Joseph Delaney, that I want to read if I can find it... The first book is called The Spook's Apprentice.

...STOP JUDGING ME BECAUSE I LIKE YOUTH FANTASY BOOKS. I BLAME HARRY POTTER.

I can offer the more adult Life of Pi by Yann Martel and Cat's Eye by Margaret Atwood in response to your judgement. And I don't know if you've read it or not, but Eoin Colfer who wrote the Artemis Fowl series wrote another sequel in the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series...

Have you read Artemis Fowl? You should.

Also you should read Castle in the Sky and Howl's Moving Castle by Dianna Wynne-Jones.

Oh look, there I go again with my young-adult fantasy fiction. I'll stop now.

Re: a long list... :P

FANTASY IS AWESOME, AND "YOUNG ADULT" BOOKS ARE WAY BETTER THAN MOST GROWNUP BOOKS, THEREFORE YOUTH FANTASY IS AWESOME. TRUFAX.

I seen the Percy Jackson movie, it was okay, I assume the book is better.
Is Wicked like the musical?
I got Life of Pi out the AGGS library but I did not get very far. Also I picked up Howl's Moving Castle but I think I thought the beginning was kinda slow so I skipped ahead a bit and then gave up.
I read the first and second and maybe third Artemis Fowl books, but I not yet read the other Hitchhiker's book.

Thankee!

Re: a long list... :P

Yes, the books are far better than that awful movie - MASSIVE PLOT HOLES HAVE BEEN CREATED BY HOLLYWOOD. They actually can't make the sequel (that they're still planning) now, they'd have to introduce too many things in a horribly ambiguous way to be able to account for what was missing in the movie plot. I surmise it will go something like THIS:

OHHAII'MCLARICEANDMYDADISARESANDYOUWERESUPPOSEDTOBEMYBIGGESTENEMYINTHELASTMOVIEBECAUSEYOUPISSEDHIMOFFBUTIDIDN'TEXISTTHENSOHEREIAMNOWANDNOWI'MGOINGTOTAKEYOURQUESTYAAAAAAAAY.

And yes, Wicked is what the musical is based on.
