O HAY LJ
Man I haven't posted here in too long. I've been reading my flist, just not written anything.
- My recital went fairly well I thought. I was pretty happy with it, anyway; didn't get hopelessly lost, did the rubato intro, remembered all the bits and pieces for the arrangements. Jono and Mareka were really good (Jono is like the best drummer in the course, and Mareka is a bass player who looks just like Tal Wilkenfeld). Were a few things that could have gone better, but there always are. Talked to Mark afterwards and he said there were some good moments, and I've definitely improved. My parents both came, as well as my brother, which was nice. Haven't yet looked at results.
Actually I think I'll check that now.
... okay, can't remember my logon information. I'm sure I have it written down somewhere in one of the messes of papers in my room. Probably the one behind the door, on the floor.
- Today I won a ukelele! This one:

(click for biggerness)
Signed by Gin Wigmore! about whom I have previously posted.
I seem to be getting a lot of free stuff lately. Myspace concert tickets the other week, movie tickets for next week. Free is goood.
- ... ok the marks for semester two are not on the site yet, but I got a B- for the jazz-rock fusion history paper in the first semester. That is Good.
- Went swimming for the first time in aaaaages. Was good, I am out of practise though. I can't co-ordinate the breathing right.
- Went over to Paul's last night, his computer died. He had some backups, but he's lost a lot of cool artwork. He's basically lost his most faithful friend of the past three years.
We played PlayStation, watched Teenagers From Outer Space which was randomly on the game disc for Destroy All Humans!. Then just sat and talked for a couple of hours. Didn't get home until nearly half past five.
- Summer Is Coming.
I have a coupla memes that have been sitting half-finished for quite a while now. I should get on that.

Went to see Opensouls play last Friday. Was a great show. I like their new stuff much more than their older stuff, it's real old-school Motown, with some Ray Charles-style country thrown in.
During the encore:
Me: *right at the front singing along*
Tyra: *sees me singing*
Tyra: Who wants a CD?
Everyone: ME!
Me: I do!
Tyra: *hands me CD!*
Me: :D!
Godfrey: :D!
Tyra (afterwards): I saw you singing along and I was like, "Yup. You're getting it."
Saw Neil from uni there. I discovered that it is quite funny to see a uni tutor stumbling and drunk.
And yes, Vic, I also chatted to Godfrey. I got him to sign the CD, which was actually the first time I've gotten his autograph at all, despite having seen him with the P seventeen times.
Amazingly, Tyra remembered me from the last Opensouls gig I went to, in August last year.
There was going to be more updatey stuff here but I got distracted. So instead I shall throw some YouTube at you and run away.
HEY GUYS HAVE SOME OPENSOULS

have been busy with uni, wurk, an actual social life.
Music awards cool, saw/chatted to many people, got autographs.
Midnight Youth still epic.
GO MIDNIGHT YOUTH winning Best Rock Album and Best Group! should have won more
Homework Actually Getting Done. Stop the presses.
Birthday party was FUN. Pizza Hut, icecream on pizza. Try it.
Last week of semester next week, then "study break", then exams, then break, then recitals, then HOLIDAY WOOO
So will have time soon to post and update and READ FLIST and stuff.
My new favourite line:
You can drive around and shoot people, which takes a lot of effort, or you can stay home and draw a picture of a turtle.
- Steve Wrigley

hey guys let's draw some turtles.

Have been neglecting flist this week, but have skimmed and am now mostly caught up.
Have been on holiday from uni, caught cold from Paul, didn't do enough piano practise (though not as bad as last time, when my teacher walked out in disgust), haven't finished arranging assignment. THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH HOURS IN THE DAY DAMMIT.
Went to Samuel's 21st, got pleasantly drunkish, stayed over, spent the whole next day just hanging with Paul and Samuel. Tomorrow we go to Rainbow's End! Yay. I have to get Paul out of bed by nine am. I don't know how.
NEW ELEMENO P SINGLE IN A FEW WEEKS :D :D :D
There is a venue quite close to where I live that was set up last year specifically for young people to come hang out, play music, get bands together, stuff like that. Starting from next week there's gonna be an open mike once a week. I'm gonna go along to the first one just to check it out, then hopefully play at one in the near future. *bites nails*

Off the top of my head:
I once tried to open the microwave, missed, and cut my toe on the oven doorhandle.
Yes, I was trying to open the microwave with my foot. Yes, the microwave is level with my head. No, I didn't see anything wrong with this. I had done it successfully many times before.
To make things worse, we didn't have any sticking plasters, so I had to sellotape a wad of toilet paper to my foot.
I did discover that it's quite a lot of fun to hop around the kitchen while clutching one foot and swearing profusely.
This journal entry brought to you by The Teenage Years, When Everyone Is An Idiot.
In other news, I have a cold, and it's ALL PAUL'S FAULT.

HERE IS THE LIST OF THE TWENTY SONGS SHORTLISTED FOR THE APRA SILVER SCROLL SONGWRITING AWARD.
Three of those - Louder Louder, Closer To Home, and The Letter - were three of my favourite songs of last year. Another one - Vampires - is by the Dukes, whose set I loved when they opened for the Midnight Youth.
Go watch the Louder Louder vid it's awesome. It looks like the song sounds.
Also go read Let Us Now Praise Awesome Dinosaurs. A short story about sentient dinosaurs from Mars.
This is from ages ago:
Here’s how it works: Reply to this meme by yelling "Words!" and I will give you five words that remind me of you. Then post them in your LJ and explain what they mean to you.

Pete, to the class at large: So what function does a B7 alt chord have?
Class: ...
Me: ...
Class: ... *tumbleweed*
Me: ... The five chord in E. E minor.
Pete: The five chord in a two-five-one. *writes progression on board*
Me: ... *WINS*
Not because I knew the answer, but because I was the only one who SPOKE UP.

Current Music: Michael Jackson countdown on C4
I never paid enough attention to Michael Jackson to be particularly worked up over his death, or even to have a favourite song. But, as
nz_bonjovi_gal said, "respect for talent where it's due, regardless of what you think about him or the headlines he made."
It's weird, him being dead. Like, I know it's true, but it still hasn't quite sunk in. He's just always been around. And I'm probably young enough that he's always been white, too.
I remember once my dad tried to show me what a moonwalk looked like. I laughed myself silly. Another time my class all sang Heal the World at the primary school end-of-year concert.
Listening to the inevitable TV/radio tributes, etc. I have decided I actually quite like Man In The Mirror, Black Or White, and that one from when he was on The Simpsons. And I cannot deny the epicness of Thriller.
--
And to other news:
Caps Lock may someday be removed from the keyboard.
The new keyboard isn't perfect. Hill called "Caps Lock" a frustrating hangover from typewriter days, a key that can introduce garble, emulate shouting or foil password entries without the user noticing.
"I think maybe sometime in the future, we should maybe entertain removing it," he said. "It's one of those things you kind of have to approach with caution. There might be some people out there who just really like their `Caps Lock' key for whatever reason".
THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. HOW WILL ALL THE CAPSLOCK COMMUNITIES SURVIVE? HOW WILL I SQUEE ABOUT MY FAVOURITE TV SHOWS? NO. JUST NO.

Current Music: various from Nature's Best and Elemeno P
I have many things to update about, but I haven't really had the willpower lately.
Had exam on Monday, didn't do nearly enough revision, but I think I got good enough marks on the assignments that I've passed the paper.
I had a piano lesson the day after for which I did almost no practise (side note: Dad will you please set the dishwasher GOING so it stops BEEPING) and seriously pissed off my tutor (side note: thanks Dad). I now have an ultimatum (side note: why is it still beeping) and I have to be a hell of a lot better by next semester or he'll stop teaching me (side note: Dad why do you suddenly not know how to use the dishwasher) and I will be in deep shit with everyone.
Saw Midnight Youth last night on their first headlining tour! I had somehow forgotten just how epic their live show is. Halfway through their song Benjamin they suddenly broke into Whole Lotta Love and it was awesome.
Instead of doing the rock-hand-devil-horns-hand thing, they got everyone to put one finger in the air. I hope this becomes The Thing To Do at their concerts.
Nicked the set list as soon as they went offstage, got it signed, got a coupla guitar picks, got into the greenroom, had a nice chat with Nick and with Jed. Much happiness.
I hope Drain My Pockets Dry is released soon. Or at all. It's a cool song.

ASSIGNMENTS OF DOOM ARE FINISHED
Assignment two for the fusion history paper was handed in last week, two weeks late. Found out Monday that the final assignment was due end of the week. Five thousand word essay. Much to everyone's relief, this was reduced to 2000-3000 words. Stayed up all night typing, trying to decide whether "jazz-rock is a subgenre of jazz, the new mainstream of jazz, of an entirely new genre outside the defined boundaries of jazz". Settled on the new mainstream of jazz. Got to bed at 8.30 this morning, slept an hour, got up to go to class. GOT IT IN ON TIME.
and now Word has screwed up my html typing, making me go ctrl+b for bold text instead of typing the tags.
I think I'm caught up on flist, so:
nz_bonjovi_gal *bighugs* and I got you a birthday present you're gonna LOVE.
automatictlc too bad you didn't get backstage but glad you had such a great time, and that's fantastic news about your mum.
blackredcrimson I have not yet read your entries properly yet but I shall when I have had more than an hour's sleep.
tinselworm *bighugs* I may have read your entries in the wrong order so I'm not sure how recent the entry was that prompted the hugs but there they are anyway.
Actually, *BIGHUGS* to all my flist!
Am doing 40 hour famine, have grand total of one sponsor, though have been promised a couple more. If anyone wants to sponsor me online please do so.
On Sunday I am Not Wurking! Instead I am going along to SkyCity to help set the world record for guitarists playing at the same time in the same place! I have been Practising.
Have 228 unread emails.
Going to bed now.
